I know the news is a bit late, but I think it still hot though. A few days ago Google announced The Social Graph API which is a way for social application developers to provide better features for their users to easily find data on about each users social connections between each others.

According to Google, The Social Graph API will makes information about the public connections between people on the Web, expressed by XHTML Friends Network (XFN) and Friend of a Friend (FOAF) markup and other publicly declared connections, easily available and useful for developers.
