Yesterday, the Joomla development team announced the release of Joomla 1.5.9 (code name Vatani). This release fix several security flaw in the previous Joomla 1.5.8. Joomla 1.5.9 was released about two months after 1.58.

There are many security issues and bugs were fixed in Joomla 1.5.9, so all Joomla 1.5.x users are adviced to update their Joomla site immediately. The highest security issue that was fixed was Directory Traversal, this issue can allow an attacker to view directory trees on the server. Read more…

Today mark a new day to all Joomla community. After a long delay the new Joomla 1.5 stable finally released. Joomla 1.5 is fully developed from stratch, this not a patch or security update version, this is the new begining for Joomla.

Actually it is easy to enable Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs in Joomla. You only need to do a few steps to enable it.

1. First of all, you need to rename htaccess.txt file to .htaccess in your Joomla root directory
2. Then login to your Joomla back-end administrator page
3. Go to Site -> Global Configuration from the main menu
4. Click on the SEO tab and then set the radio button to “Yes” on Search Engine Friendly URLs option

Note:
To able to run your Joomla site with SEF feature turn on your server must enable Apache’s mod_rewrite module.

Today, the Joomla core team released Joomla 1.0.14 RC1 code name Daybreak. This release fixed several security issues in the previous Joomla 1.0.x version. The core team advice all site powered by Joomla 1.0.x to be upgraded with Joomla 1.0.14 RC1.

When the team released Joomla 1.0.13 they said that Joomla 1.0.13 will be the last version of 1.0.x before they finally release the new Joomla 1.5. They will only release a new version if there was a major security issues in Joomla 1.0.13. Read more…
