A great news for all Wine lovers out there, Wine development team recently released newest version of Wine (Wine 1.1.10)!

The 1.1.12 release have several new features and some bug fix from the previous release which will resulted in a better user experience when running the program.

For those of you who don’t have a clue what Wine is, Wine is an open source application that allows you to run Windows-based applications under your Linux operating system. You don’t even need to installed Windows on other partition. Great huh? Read more…

RKHunter or Rootkit Hunter is a tools in Unix that can help you scan for rootkits, backdoors and possible exploits in your system. You’ll feel a lot safer regarding your system security with this baby.

RKHunter was first developed by Michael Boelen which was then he passed it on to eight people and then hosted this project on SourceForge.

I had the chance to test RKHunter today when I suspected one of my VPS might be planted with rootkits or backdoor scripts. But I felt a lot relief after RKHunter found no rootkit or backdoor scripts on my system. Read more…

Good news for openSuse users, the openSuse Project today announce the release of openSuse 11.0 RC1. There are about 578 bugs were fixed, and 1,118 bugs resolved! FYI, is one of Linux distribution and it is sponsored by Novell and AMD.

The openSuse team hope that the community can help them to test this RC1 release, all of this is to ensure that the upcoming openSuse 11.0 Stable would be bug-free as possible. Read more…

Wine 1.0 RC3 Was Released

A few days after RC2 was released, today Wine release another update, Wine 1.0 RC3. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix. Wine enables you to run Windows applications on Linux platform.

The second Release Candidate (RC) for Wine 1.0.0 will be sceduled to be release on May 23rd, 2008. As until May 16th there are still 27 bugs reported and still not yet fixed. Wine developer said that most of those bugs will be fixed on the later release, which means after Wine 1.0.0 RC3 and so son.

Mean while, right now Wine is in code free status, preparing for the 1.0 release. Read more…

Linux Fedora 9 (Sulphur) Alpha is finally released. It is the first alpha release of Fedora 9 with codenamed Sulphur. An alpha release is similar to what Debian calls testing.

An alpha release represents a sanitized snapshot of Fedora’s development branch, which sees rapid changes and it will become the next major release. Play DVD on Linux Ubuntu

If you’re new to Ubuntu, you might be wondering how on earth I can play DVD (movie, music, program) on my Ubuntu? Well, before you can play DVD on your Ubuntu you need to do several things.

  1. First thing first, open the terminal window
  2. Type this command in the terminal window and execute itsudo apt-get install totem-xine libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdread3
  3. If you’re being ask for password, just enter you SU (Super Administrator) password.
  4. Then, type another commandsudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

Play DVD on Ubuntu Linux

That’s a wrap, you can now play DVD on your beloved Ubuntu machine using Totem movie player.

A few hours ago, Linux Torvalds, the man behind the well-known Linux open source operating system announced the release of Linux Kernel 2.6.24. Linus said that he hope that this kernel release is a good one.

Amarok’s team have recently release a preview version of what should be the next version of this Linux music player, Amarok 2.

On their site, the Amarok team said that this preview represents a snapshot of the current state of Amarok 2 development.
