In Indonesia, Vista does not always mean the newest operating system from Microsoft. It could also mean a multi surface cleaner, juts like this one. A multi surface cleaner named Vista, and if I’m not mistaken my mom’s bought this product long before Vista was launched.

Disabling Windows Vista UAC

There is an easy way to disable Windows Vista UAC (User Account Control), it will only take seconds.

  1. Click on the Start menu and click on the Control Panel
  2. From the Control Panel search box, type and search for “disable uac” (without quotes)
  3. Click on the “Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure”, then uncheck “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”Disable Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC)
  4. If you’re done just click on the OK button, reboot you’re computer when prompted.

Disable Transparency

  1. Click on your Vista desktop and then select “Personalize”

Disable Animated Window

  1. Go to Start -> Run and then type SystemPropertiesPerformance, don’t forget to press Enter
  2. Click on the Visual Effects tab and uncheck “Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing” and press the OK button

Show Super Hidden Files in Windows Vista

Some important files for Windows Vista are hidden by default. This is to prevent those file from being touched or accidentally deleted, these files are super hidden files.

But if you curious enough to see all the super hidden files, here are some tips on how to make the super hidden files visible.

Note: Before you do this, please make sure that you know what you’re doing. Because we gonna play some games with Windows registry.

  1. Click on the Start -> Run
  2. Type “regedit” (without quotes) and press Enter
  3. Go to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  4. Change SuperHidden key value to 1

Disable Windows Vista Start Up Sound

Windows Vista start up sound sometimes a bit annoying. If you’ve decided that you don’t want to hear that annoying sound again..ever, here’s how to do it.

  1. Click the Start button and then type “sound” (without quotes) in the search box.
  2. You’ll see a list from the search result, choose “Change system sounds”, the Sound window dialog boz will then pop-up
  3. Uncheck “Play Windows Startup sound” option

  4. Don’t forget to click OK if your finished

From now on you won’t hear Windows Vista start up sound.

Change Windows Vista Product Key

Windows Vista gives ease of use to its users, you even can change your Windows Vista product key easily.

  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
  2. You’ll see “Change product key” link on the System applet, just click on that link and then type your new Windows Vista product key.
  3. Click the OK button if you’re finish.

Check Windows Vista Activation Status

Did you know that you can check whether your Windows Vista has been activated or not via the command line?

All you have to do is:

  1. Click the Start button and type “cmd” (without quotes) in the search box and then hit Enter on your keyboard
  2. You’ll now see the command line window, in the command line type:
    slmgr.vbs -dli

    and hit hit Enter on your keyboard

  3. A new window will pop-up and it will display your Windows Vista License Activation Status

Erase Windows Vista Boot Loader

Although you have erase Windows Vista from you hard drive and install a fresh Windows XP as a replacement, Vista boot loader will still remain on your system.  This is quite annoying because we will see Windows Vista bootloader every time we boot our PC.

There are two ways we can do to erase Windows Vista bootloader, the first one:

  1. Boot to Windows XP. Put your Vista DVD to your DVD-Rom
  2. Click on Start -> Run, and type x:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 All /force
    Note: “x” is your DVD-Rom drive name.

Or you can try the second steps:

  1. Boot you PC using Windows XP SP2 CD.
  2. Run the Recovery Console.
  3. When the console is loaded, type “fixboot” (without quotes) and press Enter.
  4. Then, type “fixmbr” (without quotes) and press Enter.
  5. Reboot your PC to see the results.
